The  "O Antiphons"

Advent Prayer Series

Advent, the traditional time set aside for our spiritual preparation before Christmas, will be upon us soon.  As the semester comes to an end and we draw closer to the much-awaited birth of the Messiah, we may need a spiritual shot-in-the-arm.  To help us get the most out of this especially lovely season, we invite you to attend our first Advent Prayer Series.

The theme for this series is "Praying with the O Antiphons."  The antiphons were composed in the seventh or eighth century when monks put together texts from the Old Testament which looked forward to the coming of our salvation.  They are used during evening prayer the week before Christmas and form a rich mosaic of scriptural images.

The series began on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:00 a.m., and was followed by a continental breakfast.  Each session was directed by an invited guest, as listed below.
