Theologian-in-Residence
Meet Dr. Andrew Mercer
Andrew is a native Texan but came to Springfield in 2022 from the mountains of southwest Colorado. He and his wife Becca have been married since 2007. They are the proud parents of two girls and the proud owners of Milo the dog.
Andrew was received into the Catholic Church on Christ the King Sunday in 2017, coming from an independent protestant background. Primarily because of the teaching of Christ, but partly due to his background, he has a keen interest in ecumenical dialogue and in fostering mutual understanding between Catholics and non-Catholic Christians. He has a BA in Humanities and Biblical Studies, a Masters in Theological Studies, and a PhD in History of Christianity with a specialization in patristics. Besides spending time with his family and reading, he loves spending time outdoors: hiking, fly-fishing, gardening, golfing.
His favorite things about working at CCM are witnessing students lead their peers into encounters with the love of Christ and fostering discussions on challenging issues or doctrines that are difficult to understand.
